The MEZQUITIC Chair

Roberto Eibenschutz
1962

Roberto Eibenschutz designed and made this piece while doing his practicum as an architect in Mezquitic, a remote village in the state of Jalisco. Both table and chairs were made to be easily assembled and disassembled so that he could easily move them from one place to another: from the studio to his house, at first and, later on, once he moved back to the city, from Mezquitic to Mexico City.  It belongs in our catalogue at Clásicos Mexicanos precisely because this simplicity hides a highly skilled and complex woodwork that allows it to come apart and be put back together.
