The TULUM Folding Chair
Po Shun Leong
1972
The Tulum Folding Chair is a tumbler chair that continues the Mexican tradition of the Butaque. It’s a simple design, with four wood poles forming two exes on either side, held together by a string and by the seat, which is a single piece of canvas with leather pockets at the ends, where the poles are inserted. The chair’s simplicity along with its perfectly-though-out proportions is a testament to Leong’s genius as a furniture designer, and the reason why we were keen to include it in our catalogue at Clásicos Mexicanos.
